East Penn Manufacturing Company

Voltmaster Factory

In October of 2006, East Penn Manufacturing entered into an agreement with Voltmaster Company Inc. to acquire substantially all of the company's operating assets. As a result of this agreement, East Penn now maintains manufacturing, sales, and distribution operations at the Corydon, Iowa facility. The Corydon facility will provide increased manufacturing capacity as well as broadening East Penn's customer service and support.

The Wayne County's battery manufacturing facility first began its operations in 1923 when S E Gibbs of Corydon, Iowa, founded the company.

From those early beginnings, the company grew. In 1928, L. L. Fry was hired as shop foreman, and later became Gibbs' assistant. In 1951, Fry and three other employees purchased the battery manufacturing company and renamed it Voltmaster Company, Inc.

The present factory west of Corydon was built in 1953. In 1972, Mr. Fry sold the business to his son-in-law, Roger Winslow.

Voltmaster had earned a good reputation for its full product line, quality, and customer service. This facility will be integrated to meet all of East Penn Manufacturing's quality requirements. East Penn looks forward to continuing to invest in the people and equipment of our Corydon, Iowa battery operation.
